J.
Michael Jernigan, Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer, J. Michael Jernigan co-founded
Select Health of South Carolina, Inc., the first Medicaid
managed care plan in South Carolina.
Born
and educated in South Carolina, Jernigan began his professional
career in 1977, working with hospital clients in South Carolina.
After 20 years with various health provider organizations
across the country, he returned to South Carolina in 1995
to organize Select Health of South Carolina, Inc., a new health
plan for families enrolled in Medicaid.
Developing
collaborative relationships with organizations committed to
improving the lives of children in South Carolina continues
to be a priority for Jernigan.

Cindy
Helling, Vice President/Chief Operating
Officer
Cindy Helling has been employed by Select Health since its
founding in November 1995. Cindy oversees Select Health's
operations throughout our service area. She has also served
as Associate Vice President of Management Information Systems.
Helling has more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare
industry, 17 of which have been as a manager.
Since
1987, she has worked with community hospitals and health maintenance
organizations in Oklahoma and Florida. Cindy received a Bachelor
of Science degree from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y.,
and a Master's of Business Administration from the Citadel
in Charleston, S.C.

Kathy
Stone, Vice President, Public Affairs
Kathy
Stone has more than 30 years of varied experience in the healthcare
environment. Before accepting her current position, Stone
worked as Senior Director of Communications. She has worked
for a Medicaid managed care plan in Florida and as Director
of Marketing for three hospitals owned by a large for-profit
hospital organization. Stone has a degree in business administration
with a major in marketing from the University of South Florida. |

Fred Volkman, M.D., Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Volkman became the Chief Medical Officer for Select Health in September 2007. Prior to Select Health, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Avidyn Health/Fiserv Health Care Management. In this role, Fred was responsible for the clinical strategy and oversight for disease management, wellness, independent medical review, utilization/case management, quality analytics, clinical research, guideline development, product development and the redesign of the disease management program. Prior to Avidyn Health/Fiserv Health Care Management, he managed his own medical consulting firm; served as Senior Medical Director for iHealth Technologies and Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President for Promina Health System; Vice President, Medical Affairs for Wellpoint/Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia and Vice President, National PPO Medical Director for CIGNA Healthcare/Healthsource in Connecticut and Georgia.
Volkman has a Medical degree from Rush Medical College and a Bachelor's degree in Public Health from Northwestern University. He holds a lifetime board certification in Pediatrics from the American Board of Pediatrics. |

Rob Aubrey, Chief Financial Officer
Before joining Select Health in August 2007, Aubrey was the Chief Financial Officer for more than five years of a provider-sponsored health maintenance organization in Athens, Georgia. In his role there, he was responsible for the strategic direction of the plan from a financial and operational perspective, managing finance, accounting, underwriting, billing and enrollment, network development/provider contracting, and provider relations. Prior to that, he served as Chief Financial Officer for Humana in Kansas City. In addition, Aubrey worked for PacifiCare Health System, serving in a number of financial roles across Texas and Oklahoma, with the most recent role of Director of Financial Operations in San Antonio, Texas.
Aubrey received an MBA degree from California Coast University in Santa Ana, California and a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has also received specialized training in healthcare economics and provider contracting. |

Stuart
A. Hamilton, M.D., Medical Director
Dr. Hamilton has served in this position for Select Health since
the company's inception in 1996. After graduating from Trinity
College, he received his M.D. from Columbia University College
of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his internship and
residency in Pediatrics at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
Dr. Hamilton is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the
Eau Claire Cooperative Health Center in Columbia, S.C. Hamilton
has formerly worked as an area Pediatrician for the U.S. Public
Health Service. He is also a Lieutenant Colonel (retired) in
the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps. |

James
G. (Gil) Baldwin, Jr., M.D., Associate
Medical Director
Dr. Baldwin received both his B.A. and his M.D. from the University
of Virginia in Charlottesville. He completed his residency
in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology at the Medical
University of South Carolina. Following completion of his
medical studies, Dr. Baldwin served in the United States Army
Medical Command (Europe). In addition to his duties as Associate
Medical Director, he maintains a private practice for Internal
Medicine in Charleston. He is an active member of the American
College of Physicians, the Charleston County Medical Society
and the South Carolina Medical Society. |

Terry
Jones Davenport, Community Liaison Director
In this role, Davenport has accepted the challenge to direct the creation and development of this new department for the organization. Her department will play a key role in improving health outcomes and assuring availability of services to all members by building positive relationships with organizations that share Select Health's mission. Prior this position, she served as Select Health's Director of Member Services and Education for six years and was responsible for the call center and member outreach. Additionally, she served in the United States Air Force for 10 years, during which time she gained experience in public affairs, customer service and management. She has a Master of Science degree from Southern Wesleyan University. |

Tina Davis, Regional Director, Sales Promotion and Marketing
Tina Davis joined Select Health in 2001 as a Marketing Supervisor and was promoted to Marketing Manager in 2003. She started in Medicaid managed care as a Patient Advocate for a health center in Pennsylvania where she was commissioned to build a Member Services Department from the ground up. Davis has also worked as a Marketing representative for Gateway Health Plan and has a total of 16 years in Medicaid managed care. |

Rebecca
Engelman, RN, MSN, Senior Director of
Quality Improvement
Rebecca Engelman is responsible for the development of quality improvement and health
management programs for Select Health. She worked in several
hospital emergency departments prior to managing the medical
services department at a Florida health plan. Rebecca received
her Master of Science in Nursing from the Medical University
of South Carolina, and she is currently pursuing a Master's
degree in Business from Charleston Southern University. |

Philip
Fairchild, Director of Provider Relations
Fairchild joined the Select Health team in August of 2001 and
has more than 10 years of healthcare experience including direct
patient care, claims, quality and training management and provider
relations. Fairchild earned a Bachelor of Science degree in
political science from Charleston Southern University and a
Master's degree in Health Services Administration from the Medical
University of South Carolina. |

John
McFadden, Director of Operations Support
McFadden has more than 20 years of technology experience in
healthcare and financial industries. For the past six years,
he has been at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Mich., which
is a seven-hospital, 14,000-employee enterprise where he managed
technical infrastructure for the clinical applications including
interfaces, data warehouse, database support and core tables.
He also has been involved in developing applications for the
financial/mortgage industry. McFadden has a degree in computer
technology from Tri-State University in Angola, Ind. At Select
Health, McFadden is responsible for the technology that is utilized
including computers, phones and network as well as data reporting
within the organization. |

Sean
Popson, Controller
Popson received her Bachelor of Business Administration from
the College of Charleston, and 10 of her 15 years in accounting
have been spent at local hospitals. Just prior to joining Select
Health, Popson was the controller at a community hospital in
Mt. Pleasant, where she assisted several physicians' practices
in making the transition to being managed by the hospital. Additionally,
she administered the financial operations of all patient care
and ancillary departments within the hospital. |

Tracy Pou, Director of Communications
As Director of Communications, Pou leads an award winning communications department that is responsible for statewide branding, public relations, media relations, advertising, presentations, publications and internal messaging.
Pou has more than 10 years of varied communications experience, most recently serving as Select Health’s Manager of Corporate Communications. Pou previously worked as a broadcast news producer at Columbia’s top-rated NBC News affiliate, WIS TV 10. She has also freelanced at WCSC in Charleston.
Pou earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of South Carolina and also holds a Master’s Degree in Business Management. |

Michelle
Powell, Director of Human Resources
Powell has nearly 20 years of experience with expertise in compensation
management, benefits administration and human resource policy
and procedure development. Prior to joining Select Health of
South Carolina, Powell served as Human Resource Manager for
Atlas Technologies Inc. Powell earned a Bachelor of Arts in
Psychology and a Master of Arts in Corporate and Organizational
Communications from Fairleigh Dickinson University. |

Lillian Suarez, Regional Director, Sales Promotion and Marketing
Lillian Suarez has been instrumental in leading Select Health’s sales efforts for many years. She joined Select Health in 2000 as a Marketing Supervisor and was later promoted to Marketing Manager. Prior to joining Select Health, Suarez graduated from Northampton Community College in 1991 with an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts. Following graduation, she joined Select Health’s parent company, AmeriHealth Mercy, and worked there for 9 years. |

Kevin
Vaughan, Director of Member Services
Vaughan is responsible for the plan's call center and providing
member education, as well as preventive health outreach. Vaughan
has 16 years of healthcare experience including 12 years of
call center management. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree
in biology from The College of William and Mary in Virginia
and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State
University. Prior to joining Select Health, he managed call
centers for the Medicare Part D prescription drug program,
Medicare Part B and a Federal Employee Health Benefit Plan
(FEHBP). |

Peggy
Vickery, Director of Network Management
Peggy Vickery has worked in managed care for more than 16 years.
Her experience includes network development, managed care contracting,
physician and hospital reimbursement, health claims management
and customer service management. Vickery earned a Bachelor of
Science in Business Management from Limestone College. |

Herbert Weldon Jr., Associate Vice President of Business Development
Weldon joined Select Health in 2008 and leads the company’s strategic business planning and market expansion efforts. Weldon has over twenty-five years of management experience in healthcare and finance. Prior to joining Select Health, he served as President of Weldon Management Associates LLC, an independent consulting firm.
Weldon has previously served as the Medicaid Director for the District of Columbia and as Deputy Commissioner of Medicaid for Georgia. Weldon earned an MBA in Finance and Marketing (Kellogg School of Management) and a BA in Economics, both from Northwestern University. |
