Fred M. Volkman, M.D., joined Select Health of South Carolina as the Chief Medical Officer in September 2007. He oversees the ongoing growth and expansion of Select Health's medical initiatives.
Dr. Volkman brings a wealth of medical expertise, organizational leadership and knowledge of the health care industry to Select Health. He joins us from Avidyn Health/Fiserv Health Care Management where he served as Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer. In this role, Dr. Volkman was responsible for the clinical strategy and oversight for disease management, wellness, independent medical review, utilization/case management, quality analytics, clinical research, guideline development, product development and the redesign of the disease management program. Prior to Avidyn Health/Fiserv Health Care Management, he managed his own medical consulting firm; served as Senior Medical Director for iHealth Technologies; Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President for Promina Health System; Vice President, Medical Affairs for Wellpoint/Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia and Vice President, National PPO Medical Director for CIGNA Healthcare/Healthsource in Connecticut and Georgia.
Dr. Volkman has a Medical degree from Rush Medical College and a Bachelor's degree in Public Health from Northwestern University. He holds a lifetime board certification in Pediatrics from the American Board of Pediatrics.
