DIVA (Dedicated Individually to Valiantly Assist)

During a time when so many of our youth face varying challenges at early ages, DIVA came along to give hope. Monika Carey-Green's vision of inspiring girls and young women to accomplish their hopes and dreams regardless of present and past situations became a reality as DIVA in 1999.

DIVA's mission is to encourage, enlighten, embrace and empower girls and young women of the Midlands to realize their full potential and to celebrate their successes by providing them with comprehensive services to make positive life choices. The program teaches each young lady to have confidence in herself. By addressing issues impacting the lives and livelihood of young women, DIVA hopes to empower young women to become positive, productive and independent community leaders.

Some of the services provided to girls 8 to 17 years old include:

  • Academic enrichment workshops
  • One-on-one mentoring
  • After-school programs
  • Cultural enrichment activities
  • Health and fitness activities
  • Adolescent pregnancy prevention

Services provided to young women ages 18-25 include:

  • Health and fitness programs
  • Life and social skills
  • Career counseling
  • Professional development
  • Reading groups
  • Volunteer projects

Through these programs and other community activities, DIVA impacts the lives of more 500 young women and girls in the Midlands annually through partnerships and collaborations with organizations that have similar missions.
