21st Century Community Learning Center
The 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) program provides funding to establish community-based learning centers that operate beyond the school bell. These programs include academic, artistic and cultural enhancement activities for students and their families. The primary goal of these centers is to facilitate academic excellence and help students meet state, local, and national standards in the core subject areas of reading, mathematics, and science.
In addition to the academic enrichment opportunities, these centers may also offer participants a broad array of other services and programs, including the arts, tutoring, character and technology education, drug and violence prevention programming, and recreational activities. Proposed activities target students, and their families, who attend Title I or Title I eligible school-wide programs. They also target low performing schools and serve a high percentage of students from low-income families. Supplemental literacy instruction, health and social services programs may also be offered to parents.
