First Choice by Select Health is a voluntary healthcare option for Medicaid-eligible residents of South Carolina. It’s free to enroll, and First Choice members get many expanded benefits in addition to Medicaid.

EXPANDED! A Personal Doctor for Your Family
You get to choose your primary care physician from our network of providers. Your primary care provider is in your community and coordinates all of your healthcare needs. Non-emergency visits to hospitals and some other health services are coordinated and approved by your primary care provider.
EXPANDED! Eyeglasses or Contacts
Adult members can receive one pair of prescription eyeglasses or contacts every year, when medically necessary.
EXPANDED! Nurse Help Line
Registered nurses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at a toll-free hotline ready to answer your call, discuss your symptoms and help you decide how to best handle your illness or injury.
Free Personal Healthcare Items
All First Choice members are eligible to receive personal healthcare items worth $10 (retail value) each month.
Free Breast Pump
Members who are pregnant or nursing are eligible to receive one HarmonyTM manual breast pump per pregnancy.
Unlimited Free Prescriptions for Children
With a prescription from your doctor, there is no limit to the number of prescribed medications your child can receive.
Full, Unlimited Hospital Coverage
If you need it, you'll receive full inpatient service and unlimited hospital outpatient services when coordinated and approved by your First Choice family doctor. However, if you have a life-threatening situation, go to the nearest emergency room.
Covered and Non-Covered Transportation Services
Home health and ambulance transportation are covered services. Non-covered services such as children's dental care, family planning, most mental health, alcohol and other drug (MH/AOD) abuse treatment services, vision and non-emergency transportation may be accessed through regular Medicaid.
