Human Resources Director Michelle Powell Appointed to National Advisory Panel

June 10, 2008
North Charleston, SC

Select Health of South Carolina is pleased to announce that Michelle Powell, Director of Human Resources, has been selected to serve on the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA) National Panel of Advisors.

Powell is part of a select group chosen by WELCOA to lead the effort of advancing workplace wellness throughout the United States. A total of 70 business and health leaders were chosen to serve on the National Panel of Advisors whose goal is to advance the workplace wellness national agenda. Powell is the only member on the panel from South Carolina.

"Working together, this group will help to provide WELCOA with important expertise regarding operationalizing workplace wellness initiatives," said Dr. David Hunnicutt, president of WELCOA.

Powell was chosen for numerous reasons including her leadership in launching Select Wellness, a successful wellness program at Select Health. Launched in 2006, Select Wellness promotes healthy lifestyles, increases productivity and heightens morale among Select Health employees. As part of the program, Select Health sponsors weight loss and walking programs, Weight Watchers and exercise classes for associates. In 2007, Select Health was honored by WELCOA with a Gold Level Certification as a Well Workplace.

"Michelle’s leadership has helped us create a work environment that promotes health and wellness throughout our organization," said J. Michael Jernigan, chief executive officer at Select Health. "We are extremely proud that Michelle will be able to share her insights and expertise to help other organizations build solid wellness programs."
