Select Health of South Carolina Announces New Associate Medical DirectorApril 15, 2009 North Charleston, SC Select Health of South Carolina is pleased to announce that William Burnham, M.D. has been appointed as medical director. Dr. Burnham brings over 25 years of experience to Select Health and will serve as a key medical consultant to the organization. Dr. Burnham has spent most of his career practicing medicine in South Carolina. He came to Select Health from a family medicine and urgent care practice in Mount Pleasant, and has served as medical director for a rural hospital emergency room, hospital chief of staff, and county EMS and rescue squad medical control officer. Dr. Burnham also served as an associate professor and geriatric program director at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. As medical director at Select Health, Dr. Burnham will serve as a key medical advisor providing leadership in the areas of utilization review, case management, and provider education. He will also work collaboratively with Select Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Fred Volkman, M.D., to enhance Select Health’s provider network. “We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Burnham to Select Health,” said J. Michael Jernigan, chief executive officer of Select Health. “Dr. Burnham brings a wealth of medical knowledge and experience and will be instrumental in helping to provide quality healthcare services to our members.” Dr. Burnham graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed a family practice residency in Canton, Ohio.
