Honor marks second year Select Health has received gold level certification

North Charleston, SC

The Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) has recognized Select Health of South Carolina with a Gold Level Well Workplace Award for its on-going commitment to the health and well-being of its employees. This award marks the second year Select Health has been honored at the gold level as one of America’s Healthiest Companies.

Since its inception in 1991, the Well Workplace Awards initiative has helped to advance national worksite wellness by recognizing those companies that have incorporated employee wellness as part of their overall business strategy. Select Health has taken many steps to ensure overall employee wellness, including involving senior-level support in all wellness programs, establishing company-wide policies and procedures that provide healthier options during catered events , and implementing "Select Wellness," the company's cohesive wellness team initiative that helps promote a healthy workplace environment.

Launched in 2006, the Select Wellness health team promotes healthy lifestyles, increases productivity and heightens morale among employees. As part of the program, Select Wellness sponsors weight loss and walking programs, brings licensed professionals on-site to teach physical activities such as yoga and stretching, and provides informational sessions from dieticians and physicians on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Healthy snacks are also provided to employees as an alternative to typical vending machine choices.

"Select Health of South Carolina has made a strong commitment to the health and well-being of not only its members, but also to its employees," says J. Michael Jernigan, chief executive officer of Select Health. "We are extremely proud to have been recognized as one of the leaders in employee workplace wellness and remain committed to providing a healthy environment across our organization."
