Select Health Announces Adult Member Satisfaction Results

Health Plan Scores Above the National Average In Key Areas

August 03, 2009
Charleston, SC

As the nation engages in a public debate regarding healthcare reform, a local mission-driven health insurance company is being recognized for coordinating the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective care that many would like to see adopted across the healthcare system.

Select Health of South Carolina, one of the state’s largest health insurers, has ranked higher than the national average in many key areas of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) survey. The CAHPS® survey is a nationally recognized tool that measures member satisfaction with various aspects of their healthcare, such as health plan performance and their experience in the physician’s office.

Results from the CAHPS® 2009 Medicaid Adult Survey show that members are very pleased with Select Health’s Medicaid health plan, First Choice. In fact, the health plan ranked among the top 90th percentile of health plans across the nation in the rating of the health plan, personal doctor, healthcare and how well doctors communicate.

“Our member satisfaction results are reflective of our commitment to quality and to our ongoing collaboration with our provider community,” said CEO Michael Jernigan. “It is rewarding to know that our members think we’re doing a good job.”

Select Health contracted with The Myers Group, a National Committee for Quality Assurance certified HEDIS® survey vendor, to conduct the 2009 CAHPS® survey.  Per NCQA protocol, CAHPS® was administered using mail and telephone surveys. A summary of the key findings is provided below.
