Midlands Families Turn Out for Back-to-School Celebration at New Community Service Center

September 28, 2009
New First Choice Community Center
Columbia, SC

More than 100 parents and children came out to the recent Select Health of South Carolina "Back-to-School Celebration" and were able to receive free school supplies, health screenings and important preventive health information while they enjoyed a day of entertainment and refreshments.  Participating agencies, including the Richland County Sheriff's Department and Columbia City Parks and Recreation, as well as many others, set up at the event to also provide community information to families about their programs and initiatives in the Midlands area.

The celebration was held at the First Choice Community Center, Select Health's first community service center that will serve as a one-stop shop for residents to learn more about their health care options and to learn more about the programs and services offered through Select Health's two health plans, First Choice and First Choice Kids.  Residents will also have the opportunity to learn about local community resources, and community organizations will have the opportunity to use the space for local events and seminars.

The First Choice Community Center is located at 3315 Broad River Rd. in Columbia and will officially open to the public later this year.  For more information about the center, please call 803.731.1207.
