Columbia Student Wins First Choice Member Scholarship
Columbia, SC

A childhood skating accident left Diamond Herbert in physical therapy for a very long time. Her injury made running, dancing and other fun activities difficult. Inspired by her progress and physical therapists, Diamond took an interest in physical therapy and later decided it would be her chosen career path. In 2010, Select Health of South Carolina pledged $200,000 over ten years to members of the community through its Caring10 program. The First Choice Member Scholarship is part of the Caring10 program and provides scholarships to deserving students in pursuit of higher education. Diamond Herbert, a 2011 graduate of C.A. Johnson High School, is a recipient of this year's First Choice Member Scholarship.

"We are very happy to present Diamond with the First Choice Member Scholarship, and we wish her all the best as she begins her college career," said Cindy Helling, executive director of Select Health. "Caring10 is another way we invest in our youth and is an extension of our mission to build healthy communities."

Diamond is attending the University of South Carolina-Aiken where she will study exercise science. After completing her bachelor's degree, Diamond plans to attend graduate school to obtain a master's degree in physical therapy and eventually her doctorate of physical therapy.

"Furthering my education is the best way to achieve my goals," said Diamond Herbert, recipient of the 2011 First Choice Member Scholarship. "This scholarship is going to help me work towards my dream without worrying about the cost of tuition."
