Caring10 Program Helps Boiling Springs StudentMelissa Fowler receives $2,000 First Choice scholarship for collegeSeptember 12, 2011
Heading to college is a major life milestone that is usually met with excitement and a little bit of nervousness. Sometimes, the worry has less to do with selecting a major and making new friends and more to do with paying tuition. In 2010, Select Health of South Carolina pledged $200,000 over ten years to members of the community through its Caring10 program. The First Choice Member Scholarship is part of the Caring10 program and provides scholarships to deserving students in pursuit of higher education. Melissa Fowler, a 2011 graduate of Boiling Springs High School, is a recipient of this year's First Choice Member Scholarship. "We congratulate Melissa on her accomplishments and wish her much success in college," said Cindy Helling, executive director of Select Health. "Caring10 allows us to give back to the South Carolina community by investing in our youth." Melissa is attending the University of South Carolina in Columbia where her studies will include a major in biology and minor in Spanish. After completing her bachelor's degree, Melissa hopes to attend medical school with an ultimate goal of becoming a pediatrician. "Ever since I was little, I have wanted to be a doctor," said Melissa Fowler, recipient of the 2011 First Choice Member Scholarship. "We were very relieved when I learned I received this scholarship. It is going to help me a lot." For more information about the Caring10 First Choice Member Scholarship Program, please visit our Member Scholarship Program page. ABOUT SELECT HEALTH |
