S.C. Hispanic Leadership Council Presents Scholarships to Local Hispanic/Latino College Students


Inspiring, Enabling and Mentoring Hispanic Youth

The South Carolina Hispanic Leadership Council (SCHLC) is proud to announce an exciting opportunity for Hispanic/Latino students in pursuit of higher education. SCHLC is partnering with State Farm Insurance and its Good Neighborhood Program to give six, $500 scholarships to South Carolina Hispanic/Latino students who are enrolled in an accredited college or university during the 2011-2012 school year.

"We are committed to empower the next generation of Hispanic leaders in South Carolina" said Ivan Segura, treasurer of the SCHLC and director of the REACH Youth Project. "Our vision is to give the Hispanic population an equal opportunity for success so they can become educated and empowered with the tools to achieve and reach their goals in life."

Scholarship recipients will be selected by SCHLC's Board based on the following criteria:

  • Financial need
  • Academic and extra curricular achievement
  • Community involvement
  • Superior leadership, and
  • Promise of contribution to the Hispanic community

The scholarships will be presented at SCHLC's Scholarships Awards Reception on October 21, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at the First Choice Community Center at 3315 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. The First Choice Community Center is a place for members to learn about First Choice’s programs and services as well as to connect to community resources and benefits.
