2011 Health Ministry Empowerment Tour Offers Inspiration and Important Information
Summerville, SC

TV news anchor Carolyn Murray joined the 2011 Health Ministry Empowerment Tour Oct. 22 in Summerville, where she delivered an inspirational message about overcoming fears, taking action and realizing dreams.

"You have the power to choose the life you want," Murray urged participants during her keynote address at lunch. "What will you do differently? What choice will you make?"

Select Health of South Carolina and IMARA Woman magazine sponsor the popular Health Ministry Empowerment Tour, which brings health screenings, workshops and motivational speakers to South Carolina communities each fall, at no charge to participants. This year's tour – themed "Mind, Body, Spirit: Bringing the Good News" – attracted a crowd of 128 to Summerville High School. The tour's schedule also included October stops in Dillon and Summerton.

"The Health Ministry Empowerment Tour takes a holistic approach to wellness and delivers valuable health information while building social connections," said Wendy Brawley, editor and publisher of IMARA Woman magazine. "Women can gain knowledge in a supportive setting and realize they are not alone in the challenges they face."

Murray is familiar to many in the Lowcountry as an anchor and reporter at WCBD TV (Channel 2). She strives to illuminate important medical issues, sometimes telling the story from a first-person perspective. She also uses her recognition in the community to bring attention to causes such as diabetes awareness and heart health. A graduate of Burke High School in Charleston, she understands what it means to realize your dreams. Next to her picture in her senior yearbook it says, "What I Want to Be … TV anchor."
