Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) Care Center
Why follow-ups are important for ADHD care
If you or a loved one has attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), follow-up visits with a doctor are important. You should visit your doctor within a month after your original diagnosis. You should visit 2 more times within the following 6-9 months. Then, you need to see your doctor at least once a year.
These follow-ups are just as important as your original visit. Here’s why:
You can ask the doctor questions. Are you worried that you don’t feel right? Do you still feel restless? Your follow-up is a great time to let your doctor know. They can address all of your questions while you are in their office.
Your doctor can check your progress. ADHD treatment is a balancing act. Your doctor will want to be sure your behavior is on the rise for the better.
Your doctor can adjust your treatment. Your doctor may add to or lower your medicines depending on how you feel. They will want to make sure you feel better without side effects.
Your doctor can try new medicines or therapies. Sometimes, your doctor might decide to switch your treatment entirely. They might ask you to try a new medicine or to try a new behavior.
